Lower Than Atlantis – ‘Emily’
Another single from their soon-to-be-released fourth album, ‘Emily’ starts off with a strutting guitar riff; the chorus is unbelievably catchy as lead singer Mike Duce laments about not being cool enough for a girl, presumably called Emily. Duce’s dreamy vocals, the playful bass beat and punching melody makes for another cracker of a tune from the Lower Than Atlantis boys.
Listen to the song here or pre-order their self-titled album here. Unfortunately the single is only available once the album is released next Monday (06/10).
Twin Atlantic – ‘Hold On’
The third single from Scottish rockers, Twin Atlantic, off their recent album ‘Great Divide’. The video centres around a young woman who has seemingly messed up a relationship with her boyfriend who is now, according to his mother, getting on a coach in 5 minutes and she needs to stop him – proper Hollywood drama that. The song then gets going while she’s running, occasionally in slow-motion, as the boys play in a recording studio flat, and bassist Ross McNae even spots the girl running past. The camera effects range from slow-mo to flitting back and forth in time to the music; I won’t spoil the end for you but stick to cheesy romantic ideas and you won’t be far off!
I was surprised they picked this song to be the next single off the album as I felt it was not one of the stronger tracks from the album but it is a softer rock song which appeals to a wider audience and is more likely to gain reception than their heavier tunes.
